Her Hair

"Cut my hair," she said. "Cut my hair, Katie, and we can be happy together."

I was nervous about cutting her hair, it was just so brilliant and she would look weird without it. I couldn't imagine her bald.

"Come on, Katie, you know you want this, pick up the scissors."

Do I want this? No, yes. What? Why do I want this!? Ugh... My mind...

"Pick up the scissors," she said gently, trying to calm me.

"The scissors..." I looked at them, and picked them up, hands trembling in fear.

"Yes, you can do this."

My hands got closer to her hair, closer and closer.

"Yes... Everything will be fine."

"Fine..." I mumbled.

"No!" I screamed, throwing away the scissors. "I don't want this."

She glared at me silently.

"I'm disappointed in you. Remember our promise?"

I looked down at the floor, not saying anything.

"Our promise, remember?" she said even more gently.

"Promise... Promise... Promise..." those words constantly appeared in my mind.

"Our promise, huh?"

"Yes. The promise."

"You... You wanted this... You wanted this to happen to me..."

She smiled.

"Now pick up the scissors and get back to it."

"Sure."

I picked up the scissors once more, and cut her hair off in one blow. She was... bald. Finally...

"Congratulations," she said, clapping her hands. "You've done it."

Suddenly, I felt weird. I collapsed to the floor on all fours. My hand, holding the scissors, clenched onto my heart.

"Ugh... What have I done?"

"You've done well, my dear."

"Ugh..." My stomach fluids were gurgling, body trembling, not from fear, but from a feeling... Ugh....

"The promise is completed. You have shown your true potential."

"Then... Why..."

"You'd think I'd let you be, Catherine?"

"The promise..." I mumbled. "Promise... Promise... Promise..."

"Hah, that was just..."

I collapsed. I laid there, flat on the floor, supine and sprawled out. The scissors, I had let go. The last thing I remembered, she taking the scissors away.

I woke up. Blood splattered the floor. I felt... Stiff. Blood stains were around me, but not on me. What happened?

Candles, I saw. Three, no, five. Five exhausted candles. A circle, a five pointed star.

I tried to move my body. It was hard. My body refused to bend normally. It cracked a bit, moving my joints.

I woke up to see a huge circle around me. And her, standing right in front of me, with blood stained scissors, and a full head of hair.

"How do you feel?"

"Umm..." I said as I tried to raise my forearm, "Stiff, to say the least."

"Ah... You'll get used to it."

"Why am I the same size as you?"

"You want to have a look?"

"A look?"

So she brought a mirror. In it, I saw a doll, looking back at me.

"Ahhh!!!!!!!" I screamed in fear, not believing what I saw. My body faltered at the sight.

"This is you, Catherine, or more dearly, Kathy Doll."

"No, this can't be!"

"It's part of our promise, remember? Us happy together? How is the weather?"

"Promise... Promise... Promise..." the words echoed in my mind, over and over again, never ending.

"Happy together? Happy?"

"Yes."

"..."

"Hmgh?"

"..."

"... Just admire yourself, tomorrow you'll be another girl's toy. Or should I say, a girl's toy."

"Happy... Yes, I feel happy. Happy playing, happy dancing."

"Happy?"

"Happy..." I replied, with glassy eyes, spirit somewhere else.

"Happy... Happy... Happy... Happy dolly... Happy dolly..."

"Yes."

"Kathy wants to be played with. Play, play, play!" I exclaimed, hands extended towards her, hopping playfully.

"Yes. Play you shall, from tomorrow onwards you shall be nothing but a doll, a toy to be played with, an object to be owned. By day, an inanimate doll, by night, an animated one."

"Huh?"

"Nothing. Best you don't understand."

"Dolly likes to play!"

"So, which house to?"

"Jess!!!"

"Yes."
