Checkmate - Marilyn Cheats Ending

Suddenly, Marilyn came up with a mischievous idea. Since she felt that she had little to no chance of beating Nyx, she decided to do what she had never done before - cheat at chess.

"Hey, Nyx, look there," Marilyn said, while pointing at the fields far away, where black and white horses were grazing. "There's a knight escaping!"

"Where, where?" asked Nyx, turning her back to look at the field.

Without much thinking, Marilyn quickly carried out two steps in chess.

"You tricked me!" said Nyx, turning back, glaring at Marilyn angrily.

One of the black pawns suddenly shouted, "She cheated, she cheated!"

"Oh, she did, didn't she," Nyx said. "Marilyn, you shall face my punishment."

Marilyn suddenly realized what she had done. She had cheated not only in chess, but also in a mystical and magical game of chess. She wondered nervously how she would be punished.

All of a sudden, white mist appeared at her feet and circled around them. She felt, well, a sort of tingly feeling. She could feel that she was changing, even though she didn't know how. She looked down at her legs and wondered. She looked at Nyx and raised her eyebrows in wonder.

"Look at your hands," Nyx said, after noticing Marilyn's confusion.

Marilyn raised her hands in front of her. It was as Nyx had said. Her hands turned white, not pale. Nyx handed Marilyn a mirror and asked her to look in it. She just realized that not only her arms had changed, but her face had too.

Her legs and her dress started to shorten. Her hands merged with her dress and they seemed to vanish, her legs expanded and merged with the bottom of her dress and her body and abdomen merged with her dress. She felt that she couldn't move her limbs at all as she began to stiffen. Her collar enlarged and her crown expanded too. Her crown felt through her head and landed on her collar. She suddenly felt some change in her face. As she started to scream, her mouth disappeared. Her ears and nose followed after, making her both deaf and mute. Her vision also grew dim as her eyes faded away and vanished into thin air. But somehow after a while, she could see, hear and smell, though she couldn't talk any longer. She, unable to move her limbs, tried to turn her back around. She found it possible but very head to do as she grew stiffer and stiffer as her body was slowly turning into plastic. Unexpectedly, her body turned front by its ownself. Abruptly, she felt that she couldn't move anymore, but she still had consciousness. She had turned into a life sized white queen piece.

"Now you have faced your punishment," said Nyx, grinning at Marilyn. "Pawns, bring her to the field that she pointed at. Make a pedestal and place her there. Oh, and just one more thing, make sure you engrave the words, 'The Queen who Cheated', on the plaque on the pedestal. Let this be a lesson for not only Marilyn, but also everybody who had tried or had cheated at chess."

"Black Queen, your Majesty, what do we do with the captured pieces?" asked the black rook.

"We shall follow the wager," said Nyx. "The shall be my hostages. Bring them to my torment room and I will deal with them later."

"Torment room?" Jocelyn cried out.

"Just kidding, my darling," Nyx said while laughing. "Bring them to the dungeon," Nyx said to the black rook.

"What about the remaining black pieces?" asked a black knight, pointing out that they were still here.

"Hmmm... Well, they didn't cheat, but you didn't win, so I guess that I'll deal with you the same way as I did with the captured pieces. Rooks, please also bring these pieces to the dungeon."

And so off they went, the black pieces and the Black Queen returning to the castle and the remaining and captured black pieces sent to the dungeon. Marilyn, on the other hand, has learnt her lesson as she looks over the field, the field that she pointed at, now called Fool's Garden, and the lemon tree that stands there.
